# Custom notifications

> Write your own rule for what deserves a ping, per channel or DM.

Every channel and DM supports four notification levels:

| Level         | What you get notified about               |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| Default       | Normal notifications                      |
| Mentions only | Nothing except @-mentions                 |
| Mute          | Nothing                                   |
| Custom        | Only messages that match a rule you write |

Custom is the interesting one. You describe in plain language which messages should still reach you, for example "notify me only about production incidents" or "only ping me if a customer mentions churn." Sila's AI reads each new message against your rule and decides whether it's worth a ping.

Any level can also be set for a limited time (an hour, a day, a week) and then it reverts on its own.
